It is an unfortunate fact of life that many of the fantastic activities which give us the greatest enjoyment and thrill could actually cause us harm. It's for this reason that corporate 'fun' days routinely involve activities that are not without hazard such as paintballing, abseiling, archery, go-carting, quad biking, clay pigeon shooting, rafting, high ropes and obstacle courses - the list goes on.
Similarly, private functions such as large family weddings and parties have their own unique hazards .
And then there are venues such as concerts, local fetes, business seminars, exhibitions, arenas, displays and mass gatherings.
If you are the organizer of any of these types of events, then you are responsible for supplying appropriate medical cover. Most would approach Voluntary Aid Societies and organizations, which will supply unpaid and largely minimally trained volunteer first aiders.
However, your medical cover must be appropriate to the risk.
Paramedics are the gold standard of pre-hospital care. It makes sense to have the best care you can get, and you may find your event insurance premium is lowered if you are offering this level of care.
